About 1 Leg Chain Slings
Made up with grade 8 steel chain and components our 1 leg chain sling complies to all the necessary regulations and is fully tested and certified. They are safe to use within the temperature range of minus 40 to plus 400 degrees Celsius.
Terminating at the top with a grade 8 steel master link to enable easy attachment to your hoist or crane hook. The length of chain you choose will vary, depending on what you are going to lift. For online purchasing the choice of lengths ranges from 1 metre up to 10 metres, however should you need anything longer then please give us a call. You should note that the stated length is measured from bearing point to bearing point on the inside of the last chain link at each end. (see Image)
If you are likely to need varying lengths then consider a longer chain to begin with, but, add on a shortening grab hook. These grab hooks enable you to shorten your chain length safely without any working load limit reductions. This is the only way to shorten a chain temporarily, you must never knot a chain or attempt to remove links yourself.
When it comes to attaching your load to the single leg chain sling there are three component options. Firstly there is a clevis sling hook complete with a sprung safety catch. Secondly there is a Clevis self locking hook and lastly the swivel self locking hook.
The diameter of the chain links varies between the different safe working loads. The higher the SWL the larger physical size of chain. As an example a 2 tonne sling will have 8mm diameter chain whereas a 15 tonne sling will have a 22mm diameter.
Using Your Single Leg Chain Sling Safely
Safety is the highest priority in all slinging operations, no matter which type of lifting sling you use, thus you should always adopt safe slinging practices. These practices include a number of dos and dont’s, here are a few basics.
Always inspect your chain before use for potential issues such as damaged links.
Only use your single leg chain sling for in-line vertical lifts.
Never knot a chain or attempt repairs of modifications.
Always comply with LOLER and get your sling thoroughly inspected by a trained person regularly.
Other Lifting Slings
If chain slings are not right for your task then consider a flat web sling or perhaps a round sling. These softer, more pliable slinging options may be more beneficial for your load handling operations.
