Cobra G80 Single Leg Chain Sling Options
First decide on the maximum weight you need to lift, this will help determine the best working load limit capacity for your needs.
The length of chain you need is next; The options start at 1 metre and go up in 1 metre increments up to the maximum 10 metres. The measurement is taken from bearing point to bearing point on the chain, (the inside edge of the last link).
The chain is attached to a connector and subsequently to a master link which is used for fitting onto a hoist.
Loading Hook Options
There are dozens of fittings for the loading end to choose from, however we have limited our choice to the 4 most popular Cobra chain components
1; Standard sling hook with a Clevis type fitting and sprung safety latch.
2; Self locking hook with a clevis type fitting, these have a wider opening to allow larger slings.
3; Swivel self locking hook with an eye type fitting, these have a larger opening and 360 degree swivel for easy alignment.
4; C hook with a clevis type fitting; no safety latch with this type and should be used accordingly.
It is worth noting that clevis fittings can be removed for replacement or a switch out for a different fitting to better suit a specific load. Eye type fittings are permanent and can not be removed.
Chain Shortening
It is possible to temporarily shorten the chain but must be done in the correct way to retain the maximum WLL and optimum safety. Chain should never be tied/knotted!
Shortening hooks are the only solution to correctly shorten chain sling legs. Our shortening grab hooks have an eye type fitting and are permanently fitted into the master link. When you need to shorten the chain leg simply place a chain link into the grab hook so it seats nicely into the bottom. A little trial and error choosing the right chain link may be needed to achieve the exact length you need.
