Do you need to lift and turn sheet metal? We have a couple of options to make your task easier.
Our choice of steel plate lifting gear incorporates a plate lifting clamp and a lifting magnet. Each type handles sheet materials in a different way so you will need to consider your sheet metal handling operation. Read on to find out more.
Where is Steel Plate Lifting Gear Used
Steel plate lifting gear is a collection of devices that are designed specifically for use with sheet materials such as steel sheets. Useful in steel manufacturing plants as well as places which use these sheets of metal. For example car manufacturing for body panels, aeroplane and ship building industries, large appliance manufacturing and much more. In fact if you look around you you will find many products which have been made from cut or pressed hard metal sheets. Examples include signage, security safes, enclosures, solar panels, street furniture (steel benches), fan blades, containers and cooking pans.
Why Use Steel Plate Lifting Gear
So why is there a need for specialist plate lifting gear? It is really quite simple!
Imagine trying to lift, turn and man handle steel sheets which are a couple of metres long and nearly as wide! It is not just the weight that can be troublesome but the sheer size of the sheeting. Another pitfall is the sharpness of the edges which can easily cut the hands.
With the use of the right lifting gear all these pitfalls can be minimised and handling becomes easier with less manual effort required.
Plate Lifting Clamps
Plate lifting clamps are, as their name suggests – a clamp for lifting plate materials. There are some different varieties of these clamps which are used differently. A vertical plate clamp can only lift sheets in a vertical plain and a horizontal plate clamp can only lift sheets horizontally.
There are some clamps known as universal plate clamps like the Delta ones we supply. They have some great benefits including being able to lift in any orientation. What's more you can pick up in one orientation and set it down in the other, thus enabling turning.
Powerful jaws clamp onto the steel sheet which needs to be of a certain hardness and thickness. The hinged lifting eye enables easy attachment to a lifting hoist and provides the universal lifting means.
Magnetic Lifters
Magnetic lifters or lifting magnets are extremely powerful magnets which can hold many kg's of weight. The sheets, however need to have ferro-magnetic properties to hold magnetism, they should also be of a certain thickness and clean surface to work safely.
Lifting Gear Store have selected the Yale TPM permanent magnetic lifters for our collection. They are well tried and tested and trusted by the vast majority users. Take a look at the Yale magnetic lifter product page below to find our all the in depth details and buy online.
Choosing the Right Plate Lifting Gear
First of all you need to think about how you will need to handle your sheets. How they need to be lifted, do they need turning etc.
Ensure the material you are handling meets the criteria set out for each product, i.e. thickness and surface condition. The weight will also need to be considered to ensure your chosen product can handle the weight.
You will need to do a little research on each product, however we have tried to make this as easy as possible for you. Compare our clamp and magnet pages to find you ideal plate lifting gear. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you need any help with your choice.
