What is a Bottle Jack?
A bottle jack is a piece of hydraulic lifting equipment that can be inserted into relatively small spaces in order to lift loads. They are commonly used for jacking up a vehicle for tyre changes. Although they can be very useful in many other areas such as pipe bending tasks.
Shaped a little like a bottle these lifting jacks are used for vertical lifting. Although they can not lift very high. Our largest model for example can increase in height up to around 185mm. It may not seem like much but it is more than enough to lift a car for maintenance.
Using A Bottle Jack
Bottle jacks are quite easy to use and require minimal maintenance. Just a yearly top up of the hydraulic fluid will usually suffice.
The bottle jack must be used on flat, stable ground for safe use.
They should always be positioned at the appropriate jacking point and multiple jacks are often used for added stability.
Once in the correct location you can manually turn the lifting saddle until it is nearly touching the load. Now simply insert the lever and crank it until the saddle makes contact with the load. Continue cranking in a slow, controlled way whilst continuously observing the stability. When the required height has been reached it is advisable to add one or more support stands for additional support and stability. This is not always necessary, it will depend on the task at had.
Lowering the load is equally as easy. Just turn the release valve slowly to release the hydraulic fluid back to its starting point and thus releasing the pressure, lowering the saddle and in turn the load.
Lifting Abilities of Bottle Jacks
Bottle jacks can be found in a wide array of sizes. Each has its own specific lifting capacity and many tonnes of lifting power can be achieved, even thought they are a small, compact lifting device.
The model we supply at Lifting Gear Store is from the Delta brand and can be purchased online in 2, 3 and 5 tonne capacities. 10 tonne options are also available on request so just call the team on 01384 76961 should you require this option.
