3 Leg Chain Sling Configurations
As no two lifting tasks are identical one 3 leg chain sling will most definitely not fit all, therefore we have separate components to choose from for a bespoke sling.
Our experienced team can rig up your perfect chain sling from a choice of grade 8 chain and components. First of all you need to ascertain the safe working load you require. So think about the weight of the loads you are likely to lift. Next you will need to determine the length of the chain legs you need, thus what is the distance between load and lifting device. Taking into account the maximum height of lift of your hoisting device.
There will be a steel master link fitted at the top as standard. This holds the 3 legs together whilst enabling easy anchoring. You will, however need to choose a component in which to terminate the legs. The options are a sling hook with safety latch or a self locking hook. Both have the clevis type connection for a secure fit.
Other Considerations
Some other things to consider when configuring your triple leg chain sling include the type of hitch you are likely to use. This, of course will depend on the type of load to be lifted. Typically a 3 leg sling will be used in its simplest form, with each leg connected straight to a suitable anchor point on the load. It is important to position the legs around the centre of gravity as equally as possible, thus ensuring load stability.
When multi-leg chain slings are used in this way the legs will not sit vertically, therefore angles will be formed. Angles will be prevalent at the master-link end and where the end termination meets the load. 60 degrees is the maximum allowed and you will find that the stated safe working load limit will need to be reduced. The reductions will be different according to the angle so make sure you get it right. Typically there will be a specific reduction where the angle is less than 45 degrees. There is also a different one for angles between 45 and 60 degrees. Always consult the slinging charts to ensure you have calculated correctly.
For different types of lifting slings you may wish to consider our other chain sling configurations. The single leg, double leg or 4 leg varieties. Flat web slings or round slings also come with their own benefits. So your choice will ultimately come down to your load type and lifting technique, or it could simply be your preference.
