Dee Shackle Options
Our most frequently purchased dee shackles are the green pin variety. They have straight sided saddles left open at on end and slightly curved at the other. There is a pin passing through both sides at the open end. The pin plays an important role in a shackle, as this is what secures it when connecting multiple objects.
There are two key types of securing pin; the standard screw pin and the safety bolt variety. Both have their benefits and downsides and are better suited to different tasks. Read on to find out more.
Dee Shackle with Screw Pin
The Dee shackle with a screw pin are the original and most standard variety. They have the benefit of being able to be fitted extremely quickly and removed just as easily. They make strong temporary connections but must only be used for perpendicular/ vertical lifting tasks.
It is worth noting that if this type is used where there is a lot of vibration the screw pin can become loose over time, thus it must be frequently checked and re-tightened if necessary.
Dee Shackle with Safety Bolt
The Green Pin Dee shackle with safety bolt is as secure as they come. This is thanks to the pin incorporating a nut which is put in place after the pin is passed through the body. Subsequently a split pin or cotter pin is pushed through the hole at the end of the pin, thus ensuring the bolt can not come off and therefore the pin can’t come out unwillingly.
This type of dee shackle will take a little longer to both install and remove and may need pliers or grips to place and remove the split pin. Consequently we recommend this type of shackle for semi-permanent tasks, where the shackle will remain in the same set up for longer periods. They are also highly recommended for use where there is a lot of friction on the pin or surrounding vibrations occurring during operations.
